The Institute Ruđer Bošković (RBI) has over 300 senior scientists and researchers and over 250 young scientists in 11 departments in more than 80 laboratories. It carries out research in theoretical and experimental physics, physics and materials chemistry, electronics, physical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine, the sea and the environment, informational and computer sciences, laser and nuclear research and development.

A large number of research instruments at the RBI are primarily dedicated to the Institute's research projects, but also used by other research and academic institutions in Croatia and worldwide. Some are used on a commercial basis, providing services to industry and others.

The research conducted by RBI scientists is mainly through domestic and international projects carried out in collaboration with various universities and scientific institutions from around the world.

RBI has also the Office for Projects and International Cooperation that provides technical assistance and support to IRB researchers in the preparation and implementation of projects financed by domestic and international funds.
