LyondellBasell, one of the world s largest producers of polymers, petrochemicals and fuels, develops bio-based fuel products, clean-burning fuel components based on renewable raw materials that help to reduce CO2 emissions and utilize alternative energy sources. LyondellBasell s global fuel ethers capacity is over three million tons per year, with more than one-third of that capacity in Europe (Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Fos-sur-Mer, France). The Fos facility began producing commercial quantities of bio-ETBE in 1998, and the combined facilities have since increased volumes to meet rapidly-growing demand in Europe. LyondellBasell's Fos-sur-Mer and Rotterdam facilities have the capacity to consume up to eight million hectoliters of bioethanol per year. LyondellBasell strongly supports the development of a sustainable biofuels market in which efficient local investment is aligned with access to freely traded and open markets. It therefore advocates policies which preserve technology neutrality between all biofuels and biofuel components.
