New brief by the JRC: Facts and figures on bioenergy in the EU

A new brief prepared by the JRC shows that energy produced from biomass represented 59% of total EU's renewable energy consumption (and 10% of all energy sources) in 2016.

Bioenergy is helping the EU to meet its target of 20% renewable energy by 2020 while contributing to limit the temperature increase to 1.5° C.

Consumption is expected to increase as the EU works towards its 2030 targets and bioenergy is also expected to provide a key contribution to the EU's 2050 long-term strategy.
